Meet the Press was live from the Windy City this week with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The Chicago Tribune covered David Gregory's interview with the former White House Chief of Staff: “Mayor Rahm Emanuel hit the national airwaves Sunday to defend his former boss and said President Barack Obama faces a re-election challenge because Americans will hold him accountable for the economy. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," which was taped in Chicago, Emanuel also had the opportunity to promote what he views as his biggest accomplishments during his first five months in office.” 

On MTP, Emanuel gave an insider look at his dynamic with the President. The Chicago Sun-Times reported on Emanuel’s defense of Barack Obama: “When Mayor Rahm Emanuel was White House chief of staff, President Barack Obama would resist his urging to do "the quick political thing," Emanuel said in a Sunday interview on NBC's Meet the Press.”

Many other news sources picked up those comments, including AP, which wrote “Speaking on NBC's "Meet The Press," Emanuel portrayed President Barack Obama as a political leader with the courage to take steps that would have been politically expedient in favor of moves that were in the long term interest of the country - even if they were not popular.”

The Detroit News noted one part of the interview that resonated in the Motor City. The News wrote, “In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," Emanuel, a former Chicago congressman who served as President Obama's first chief of staff, criticized former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's approach to the auto industry.” Emanuel told David Gregory “There would not be an auto industry if Mitt Romney was president. He would have said, 'Let it go bankrupt.’”

David’s  interview with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) also made news this Sunday. The New York Post reported that Ryan “accused President Obama of using his doomed jobs bill to 'create political ruckus' instead of honestly working to create jobs” on Meet the Press.

The Hill also noted Ryan’s criticism of both the President and the Occupy Wall Street protesters: “The chairman of the House Budget Committee accused President Obama of leveraging the current protests against Wall Street to stoke class warfare between the American people Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.” 

Real Clear Politics and United Press International covered Ryan’s comments on tax issues Sunday. UPI wrote, “A top Republican budget hawk said he favored closing corporate tax loopholes and getting the federal government to stop "picking winners and losers."” RCP noted that Ryan told David, “I don’t worry about people who are already rich. I’m worried about getting people to become successful” and accused Obama of being a “divider.” Watch Paul Ryan's remarks below:
