Senator Tom Coburn M.D. (R-OK)
- Elected to the Senate in 2004, Senator Coburn serves on the Judiciary Committee, Finance Committee and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
- Senator Coburn said he will not vote to raise the federal debt ceiling until he has, "absolute certainty that we've made the critical changes that are necessary to put this country back where it needs to go."
- Writing an op-ed in the New York Post, Coburn discussed the need to change Medicare and Medicaid. He said, "The American people clearly support reducing spending. Our next task is to convince them why sweeping reforms and larger savings are needed."
- Like Senator Conrad, Senator Coburn is part of the aptly-named "Gang of Six." They are a group of Senators who are working on a bipartisan plan to cut $4-trillion from the national debt.
