I would submit the guys over in Afganistan have more important things to worry about than what Cruz said they were accosting him over, the US debt & budget. What a BS'er.
You can buy a gun that is capable of killing and or injuring hundreds of people in a matter of seconds at your local gun store but you can’t buy a rocket propelled explosive capable of the same destruction at this same store, why? Might it be because it makes good sense? If we can't compromise on reasonable gun control then Washington is truly dysfunctional.
David Gregory today asserted that the NRA ad regarding armed guards at the Obama children's school was "factually inaccurate." Actually, it is quite accurate. The Obama children attend Sidwell Friends school and Sidwell Friends employs eleven armed, full-time guards. Those armed guards are NOT the Secret Service. They are employed by the school and are there to protect all the children. The NRA ad is factually accurate in this regard. The fact is that the Obama's send their children to a school that is protected by armed guards. The school is quite the opposite of the "gun-free zones" to which so many middle class families must send their own children.
Actually, what I have read is the Sidwell employees 11 security guards which is accurate; but, that several of them are administrative positions and not all of them are armed. I believe only half are armed, plus...that Sidwell is a combination of 3 separate schools, so those security guards are scattered over several buildings. Many charter/private schools have security guards for middle class Americans...and is different from the public schools that a majority of middle class Americans kids go to.
Sidwell employs guards who must maintain SPO status. The ONLY reason why you would need SPO status is to be able to carry firearms. Other than that, you could hire anyone you believed had the security expertise/martial arts training/etc. that you wanted. The only reason for going with SPO status is the ability to carry firearms. I can only speculate who talked to Sidwell and told them to say that the guards are not armed. The WH is, after all, the most powerful force in the country. There are pictures online of the guards at Sidwell and the pictures clearly show them carrying guns.
What I have read is that Sidwell employed the security guards before the Obama children started going there, and many administrative security personnel don't carry firearms. My guess is, that the pictures you mention are the Secret Service which is a totally separate security mandate than what the school employs. Every presidential family has had secret service protection for the last 50-60 years, with armed security details; nothing new regarding the Obama's. I also would bet that Bush's twins had armed security detail at the school they attended...along with Clinton, and Reagan's kids.
Again...we are talking about a charter/private school versus public schools.
Greatly disappointed that David let the panel shut down Richard Engle after his truthful comment about the USA falling status a model for government. While not popular, this is a perspective from someone who knows better than some of the image conscious others, how the world, especially 3rd world is seeing us versus other powers like China.
I thought Joe's comments about Obama coming into office unprepared is simply typical of GOP point of view. It's not the experience Obama didn't have, its respect for the office and they man that has held this country hostage. When Mitch McConnell said that he was going to fight Obama on every single piece of legislation no matter how good it is for the country, they should have kicked his ass out of office. That's what is holding this country back and you all if you really knew what most people think, you wouldn't keep saying "The American People think" as a whole. None of you have a clue what the commoner thinks or feels because you don't ask.. You use us and it's misrepresenting who we are. Obama can do so much more if it wasn't for Congress. I believe he should use his executive order, change the way we handle Congress, and take them all out and set them free among the "American People" so they can see how we feel, really.....
Senator Schumer made a statement that anyone can go to an ffl and pass a background check and buy 20 guns then resell them to anyone they want. He was stating that this loophole existed. This one is covered by the ATF. by law an ffl is to report multiple gun purchase sales to the atf (it does specify handgun but all the ffl's i talked to said they do it on all sales of this type)Im taking the word of the ffl here since they deal with this daily and he is required by law to meet this compliance or loose his license. Here is a link to the atf's ffl factsheet for compliance inspections. Paragraph four.
Compliance failures, which constitute violations of law and regulation, commonly disclosed during the inspection process include failure to verify purchaser eligibility; inability to account for firearms received and disposed; failure to ensure firearms traceability due to improper recordation of firearms receipt and disposition; failure to properly document firearms transfers; and failure to report multiple sales of handguns. These types of violations, among others, can hinder the FFL's ability to support law enforcement criminal investigation efforts.
My point here is before adding legislation that does nothing but add to our problems, lets enforce what is on the books and clean up the wording a bit if needed. It's the ATF's (government) job to follow up on these types of sales to see if people are purchasing these guns to resell for a high profit. Basically the ffl is required to retain the information on every gun purchase so the atf can show up at the purchasers door if your doing criminal type activity. You can bet this is happening right now with ar-15's because of the demand. This is just one of the many examples that i took the time to research. I hope this post is considered as a means of education on how some of this works which is important on what decisions are made going forward. I enjoy my second amendment right.
Responding to the Sen. Cruzs' comment: I would like to state for the record...as a single woman living in Anacostia i've never felt the need to carry any sort of firearm for any reason. This issue is so much bigger than! You grasped an opportunity to take a cheap shot at the women of Anacostia. Your comment raises serious underlying concerns. #KeepSEDCBLK

My thoughts exactly. A lot more to worry about over there.

Wondering why David Gregory did not ask Sen. Cruz about his idea to impeach Pres. Obama.

The guards are not armed. The Secret Service who guard the children of Obama are, as they should be.
