This Sunday, David Gregory sits down exclusively with President Barack Obama. This will be Mr. Obama's 11th appearance on the program, his second time as the commander in chief. In the midst of fierce fiscal cliff negotiations, we’ll hear directly from the president about where things stand and whether a compromise is even possible. Plus, David will talk with him about other key issues facing the country as he prepares to begin his second term in office.
His most recent appearance was on Sept. 20, 2009 in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. At the time, the health care reform fight was center stage in Washington and the President joined MTP to make his case for the overhaul. Watch the full interview below.
Transcripts from Barack Obama's Meet the Press appearances:

This ought to be interesting :-/
They should get President Obama and John Boehner together on the show and let them hash the fiscal cliff situation once and for all, on the network for all to see. That would show us who is who in the discussions. I do not think John Boehner would have the stomach for that however.
Nuff Said . . Thanks for reading :)
It's about time someone stated the fact that Republicans are holding the economy hostage just to make the wealthiest few even richer.
Republican policies tanked the economy, and they have blocked all legislation to help the economy and put Americans back to work for 4 years now.
As Republicans play to their radicalized base, the country's economy is being ruined.
That is not true. Both parties are at fault. They need to act like grownups and make the hard choices of cutting their spending, starting with their paychecks benefits and pensions.both parties keep clamoring about Americans entitlements when it is they who feel entitled to help themselves to our hard earned money.
Yes, it IS true. The Tea Party Republicans have taken this, ANOTHER, legislative process hostage, and not even their leader, Boehner, can keep them in line; they're screwing up these negotiations in the name of not compromising.
This argument of, "welllll, both sides: do it/say stuff /are the problem, has got to go. The President has been playin' ball here, and so have Democrats, and even the moderate Republicans WANT TO play ball.
After last week's "I'm packing heat" lunatic, this week should be refreshing.
To the average Joe on the street: YES, you want to go over the fiscal cliff.
Remember the Clinton or Reagan era tax rates? Didn't seem to hurt the economy back then, did it?
You want the spending cuts. You actually want even more spending cuts. The supposed "CUT" in defense is only a cut in the amount it increases. You really want to see spending freezes. No one gets laid off in a spending freeze, despite what the press constantly scares you with.
Well, unless you want to see more drone fleets spying on you, more TSA staff molesting you, and more politicians voting themselves pay raises while giving you the finger. Then by all means, continue on your path. Oh yes, and grow FEMA bigger and make it even more incompetent.
Oh, and the self supporting program Social Security which you pay for, they want to axe because it might possibly not be self supporting in 2043. Yes, you heard me right. In the year 2043.
And your credit has been downgraded because your spending far exceeds your revenue. Each party blames the other for the downgrade, as though the credit agency is more influenced by political games than fiscal policy.
Lastly, most Democrats and Republicans are completely full of s**t and lost the ability for critical thinking at some keg party in their early college years when they were listening to some drunken political argument.
Obama wants to go over the cliff he needs to go over the cliff. ff not he has no one to blame but himself. You know as well as I do blaming Bush kept the heat off of him he could spend trillions 6 to be exact. On give a ways to his supporters under the cover of green tech. you know who they are, to the unions UAW and SEIU. Now he just may have to own this mess and it not making him feel good so by going over the cliff the uninformed will blame the GOG and Obama has cover for the next four years. Obama will spend as much as he can and as fast as he can. If David Gregory was doing his job as a reporter he would press Obama on that point but all we will get is soft ball question on why the GOP is doing this, that and the other thing setting you up for when we go over the cliff. No hard questions from David Gregory has to follow the scrip that's given to him by Obama.
Probably right about the softball questions. Tim Russert, whom I loved, did the same thing with George W. Arguably the most criminal president in modern history, competing with Nixon and Reagan, Russert let him slide.
Want to see the BS stop? Vote out your house members every election. Vote out your senators, every election. Let these @!$%#s realize there is a revolving door and they will start to work for the American people. as it stands, they get elected by how much money corporate donors plow into campaign ads. Vote the incumbents out every election cycle for the next 8 years and watch these knuckle draggers come around.
Who benefits from the indebtedness of this nation?
Why talk to David Gregory? Is he negotiating a fiscal cliff deal??? How about this:
STOP CAMPAIGNING AND START LEADING!!!!
If he spent half of the time he spends at rallies and campaign-like events on real leadership and negotiations maybe we'd have a deal by now.
So the deadline is two days away, but the POTUS has time for Meet the Press? I thought the campaign was over. How about he gets airtime when this crisis is resolved?
The Democrats and the Republicans are both nothing but PR machines cranking out finger-pointing and cranking up for the next election to keep themselves rich. Did you know that the state (or "federal district," in this case) in the US with the highest average earnings per capita is DC? And the average there is about 50 percent higher than the runners-up?
Are you surprised?
Iowa...another white, ignorant , trailer trash poster here...
He should have waited until the budget was balanced
We are GOING OFF THE CLIFF courtesy of BOTH the Democrats and the GOP because the cliff was put in place because neither the GOP or the Dems in congress could do their job over a year ago and both sides played politics to see who they would get in office instead of voting what was best for the country they stuck with party lines: It is the job of a congressman to vote according to their constituencies' wishes that elected them in in the first place. Not to vote freely with their own intelligence or free thought what is best for the country.
That is exactly what the GOP is doing, and exactly what the Dems are doing, and is exactly why we are in this mess in the first place.
We need a MODERATE THIRD PARTY BADLY
No we don't need another party of any persuasion, badly. We need the Republicans to either weed out the Tea Party extremists or divide in two, original moderate and somewhat conservatives, and the lunatic fringe. Term limits would help enormously on the whole system. If a president is limited to 8 years total (IF re-elected) why not everybody else?
Obama keeps pulling the parties back to the table. He's trying. Clearly he wants a deal.
If he were "just being political" or "he wants all taxes to rise" or "he just wants to blame Republicans" he'd just let the deadline go past and blame them. They would get the blame. 2:1 in another article says Americans blame Congressional Republicans over Obama.
Obama is trying to forge a deal. You can't say "it's all of them" in this case.
He wants Republicans to submit. He is not compromising. The Republicans have bent on revenue but Obama hasn't budged on spending.
Why do you think Republicans will shoulder the most blame for going over the cliff? How many rallies has Boehner held to support his side? How often has McConnell held campaign events to blame the other side? Obama has spent his time on P.R. rather than negotiating.
Some of you obviously have conveniently forgotten that the 2011 debt ceiling fight ended with a lot of spending cuts and not a single source of new revenue. It seems most of the Republicans in Congress have also forgotten this.
The GOP refused to compromise in 2011, and held our credit rating hostage. Look what it got us, a downgrade on our credit rating.
Now their caucus once again refuses to come together in a spirit of compromise. Every day that passes it looks like 98% of Americans will suffer tax increases because the GOP refuse to raise taxes on the wealthy top 2%.
Talk about dysfunction....
Q22 the GOP lead by Grover and the koch brothers (not Boehner) have not been able to go on tour with their give more to the rich /Screw America platform because they know they have nothing to offer America except poverty for the middle class
Why can't he make all 5 Sunday Shows like U.N. Ambassador Rice ??...Why just NBC's Meet the DePressed...Oh yeah...NBC...The National Barrack Channel...
Letting just the Top Rate go up, brings in $80 Billion....Letting them all go up brings in $1 Trillion more...enough to cover Obama's yearly Budget Deficit....
Last 4 years brought in $2 Trillion a year, Spent $3.2 Trillion a year....
Let the whole country pay for Obama's "Big Government" government.....
You all marveled at how well you say the country did with the Bill Clinton tax rates....going back to them should fix the economy lickety-split...No ???
Excellent Mike.......any thinking person should be able to figure out that O is not really interested in reducing our debt. He just wants higher taxes ("fair share") on the "rich" to divide the nation. He thinks the 98% will be jealous of the 2% having more than they have and, of course, will think this a good idea. The money from the 2% is not even a drop in the bucket, so really what good will it do?
I personally do not care if 2% of the nation are "millionaires" as long as it was an honest days work.
i intend to tune in long enough to see which obama shows up -- the President of the United States or the political hack.
If the President shows up then there might be the chance that he will have listened to the nearly half of the population that did not vote for him whereas if the political hack shows up it further confirms that he is only the President of some but not all.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if it can be done without name calling insults or other -- just a civil discussion.
Actually - if you read the Woodward book - the 2011 deal was scuttled because after a deal was nearly reached Obama came in with a demand of double the revenue that had been agreed upon.
So, and what good is that to do? Just wasting time, telling lies, as usual, and pre-empting the half assed normal program. WOW
Hey Mike!! Spot on!!
Oh goodie....now we get to listen to Barry LIE for another hour!!! Then we get to watch as America goes over the cliff! Its called COMPROMISE Barry...I know it doesnt exist in your vocabulary, but you gotta STOP SPENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boehner can't negotiate anything. Barry needs to meet with Norquist, the Kock brothers, and a few other billionaires that are running the Republicans.
John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Lindsay Graham and all the other knucklehead Neo-Conservative morons agreed to almost everything Obama wanted except to jack up defense spending so they can pay for their next war...they forgot it's a democracy though so they didn't have the votes *ouch*
Obama would be smarter to talk to the tea party directly and cut the Neo-Con idiots out of the loop for good. Then something might get done.
Republicans in the house ran on keeping taxes low for everyone. Do you people expect them to go back on their word? If they do raise taxes, they will be voted out next election.
What a joke!
KevinT
The Tea Party era will go down in history as one of the biggest boondoggles in American history. The last warning bell went off loudly on Nov. 6th, 2012. Those that ignore it will face the death knell on Nov. 4th, 2014.
The names of Grover Norquist, Rush Limbaugh,Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, Rupert Murdoch, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch O'Connell and Paul Ryan will all be spoken in the same vein as the name of Benedict Arnold is spoken today.
All of the above who are current office holders, have one last chance to add a footnote of redemption to their soiled legacy. The latest news suggests that their fear of the fools holding them hostage will prevail. That may prove to be their only contribution to the American electorate.
Decades of future generations of voting Americans will likely vet their prospective representatives much more thoroughly. They will do so with no regard to partisan propaganda. Evidence of an elected official honoring an oath to corporate lobbyists or self-appointed political activists (instead of the electorate) will result in recall or a single powerless term.
There is a silver lining in every dark cloud. The proud and ingenious American people will rise to the occasion to take back a government of the people.
I've seen brighter posts used as roof top supports in a coal mine than I see on here. Morons; Legislators legislate (Make laws and produce bills for the President to preside over). Anybody that doesn't see the obvious Hollywood politics of Boehner and Graham and McConnell yet follow after these ass jacks that constantly stroke your little peenies really should just tune into the cartoon network; therein lies the apex of your intellectual abilities and understanding.
Moderator UNCOLLAPSE the comments that you imploded that do not necessarily agree with the article. People may not like or agree with everything they read but they are free to do it. That is the basis of this country. I have seen this on newsvine but never as badly as this. If you want to suppress free speech, which makes this and other sites possible, you should go to North Korea, China, or the Middle East because that is what they do there. what you did was shameful and embarrassing, as a discredit to the newsvine community
Facts
have no place on the plate of a wrong wing republican. It is foreign to them
like intelligence. Now you can piss in their face and tell them it is raining if
you are on the EIB or Faux news and they will believe that.
Hey maybe he can do his fake tears down his cheeks and that will spur Congress to pass his ruination of America bill!!! I might watch it I need a good laugh!!!
It's sad that you'd be laughing!
Why not laugh all he is going to say over and over is tax the rich and spend, spend, spend.
Hahahahhahahaaaaaaa.
That was a good one. You must be a professional comedian.
Maybe he should ask John Boehner to give him some tips on how to "blubber" to make tears look real.
You will have more to laugh about if he announces the repubs will not cooperate and we're going over the cliff: Delight in THE HUNGER GAMES to follow as you watch the rich eat the poor.
Specifically, why are you so against this President?

Who Is The Smallest Government Spender Since Eisenhower?
Would You Believe It's Barack Obama?
Rick Ungar,
5/24/2012
It’s enough to make even the most ardent Obama cynic scratch his head in confusion.
Amidst all the cries of Barack Obama being the most prolific big government spender the nation has ever suffered, Marketwatch is reporting that our president has actually been tighter with a buck than any United States president since Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Who knew?
Check out the chart –
So, how have the Republicans managed to persuade Americans to buy into the whole “Obama as big spender” narrative?
It might have something to do with the first year of the Obama presidency where the federal budget increased a whopping 17.9% —going from $2.98 trillion to $3.52 trillion. I’ll bet you think that this is the result of the Obama sponsored stimulus plan that is so frequently vilified by the conservatives…but you would be wrong.

CaliforniaAC:I will still laugh even if we go over the cliff, I have nothing to worry about, I have plenty to eat, cars paid for, house paid for and money in the Banks, so come on let's go for a ride I'm ready, then I can sit back and laugh when other people pay some taxes other than the rich!!!
My one and only question for all of the people that talk so much about Obama just wanting to spend is "Where were you and what did you do or say when Bush did not pay for 2 wars or the expansion of medicaid with the prescription drug program?" I have no desire to rehash the past, but do you know how absurd you sound complaining about Obama when you did nothing, like most republicans, to stop this problem during the Bush years? OK, 2 questions.
read your own post ...it shows you care little about your country...if you did, you wouldn't be laughing if you really felt that our President is that bad. (so either you hate the US or don't really believe your own talk about the President...which is it?)
CaliforniaAC,If we go over the cliff it won't happen until March 2013.These jerks are holding us all hostage with our rapt attention.I am still going to go on with my life no matter what the three ring circus in Washington does.
Wow, iowaretiree...dude, I don't know whether you sound more like Limbaugh or Beck, but, you do a reasonable job of regurgitating FOX talking points, just the same. You sound like a jackass; stereotypically removed from how things are, with us peasants, in the real world of people that still have some work time left.
iowaretiree, The bit about being so rich that you don't have a care in the world is getting as old and tired as the rust bucket resting on blocks in front of your 8 wide trailer. The only people without a worry about the future of our economy are those with nothing left to lose.
The wealthy fat-cats now running scared on Wall street can testify to that fact. Bet you were one of those "lifelong Democrats" that fully supported Mitt Romney last summer. Perhaps one of the rats that immediately jumped ship when G.W. fell on his face to suddenly become an "Independent". One of the millions of newly become "Independents" that conveniently forget to change their Republican Party voter registration.
It's sad that so many pretend to be something they are not. It's even more sad to know that the only one fooled is the pretender, himself.
Breadbaker, they do not like the color of his skin. They were raised to believe that the color of THEIR skin made them SPECIAL and just can't get over it!
You are STILL proving it::::"Let's Just Say It: The Republican Party IS the Problem!!!"
There is a VERY select group of "Republicans" that truly WANT our country to be, and stay, Bankrupt!!!!! They ALL stick out like a really sore-thumb.....They idolize George W Bush, Ronald Reagan, BOTH gave us "Gigantic" deficit spending!
They CANNOT stomach that a beautiful American Success Story family is living in OUR White House...AND they are Black!!!!!
They obviously have ZERO idea that the $6 Trillion increase is MOSTLY the current "total" of "The W Tax Cuts"...AND mostly the COSTS of TWO-Unpaid for Wars, with ALL fingers pointing AT "TODAY'S" Republican Party!!!!!
Do you WANT "anything" to get fixed AND improved???? There IS ONLY One simple Solution...... ********* VOTE "TODAY'S" Republican Party INTO "EXTINCTION"!!!!!******* PUSH them CLOSER and CLOSER and CLOSER to "The EDGE" that they ARE standing on RIGHT NOW-------"The EDGE of EXTINCTION"!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amanuka, we have all seen your posts. No one listens to you anymore.
THAT is why you wrote back... IDIOT. When any data is brought up against the "fiscally conservative" Repubs the naysaying rightees squawk their ignorance loudly - trying to drown out the truth. Dems are doves (for peace) and ready to SPEND on the AMERICAN people. The Repubs are hawks (for war) and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND on their donor base - the wealthy and the military industrial complex. Go to the charts which clearly show Repubs are always ready to spend while cutting taxes - what kind of fiscal responsibility is that??
Harry 2602195..both sides are to blame because you cannot SPEND money you do not have. Know this: In 1929 the wealthiest in America could have paid off the national debt. Now they cannot even keep the FED running for a year never mind the debt. We never paid off WWII or the New Deal and just relied on GDP and inflation to dwarf it. This is obsolete 20th century thinking. In the 21st century GDP may not grow each year, and you cannot spend money to be a dove of peace (gimme a break) or a warhawk world policeman if you have debt and no growing workforce and corporate investment to tax. Unfortunately, this is the 21st century
"... while debt can be a problem, the way our politicians and pundits think about debt is all wrong, and exaggerates the problem’s size.
Deficit-worriers portray a future in which we’re impoverished by the need to pay back money we’ve been borrowing. They see America as being like a family that took out too large a mortgage, and will have a hard time making the monthly payments.
This is, however, a really bad analogy in at least two ways.
First, families have to pay back their debt. Governments don’t — all they need to do is ensure that debt grows more slowly than their tax base. The debt from World War II was never repaid; it just became increasingly irrelevant as the U.S. economy grew, and with it the income subject to taxation.
Second — and this is the point almost nobody seems to get — an over-borrowed family owes money to someone else; U.S. debt is, to a large extent, money we owe to ourselves.
This was clearly true of the debt incurred to win World War II. Taxpayers were on the hook for a debt that was significantly bigger, as a percentage of G.D.P., than debt today; but that debt was also owned by taxpayers, such as all the people who bought savings bonds. So the debt didn’t make postwar America poorer. In particular, the debt didn’t prevent the postwar generation from experiencing the biggest rise in incomes and living standards in our nation’s history.
But isn’t this time different? Not as much as you think.
It’s true that foreigners now hold large claims on the United States, including a fair amount of government debt. But every dollar’s worth of foreign claims on America is matched by 89 cents’ worth of U.S. claims on foreigners. And because foreigners tend to put their U.S. investments into safe, low-yield assets, America actually earns more from its assets abroad than it pays to foreign investors. If your image is of a nation that’s already deep in hock to the Chinese, you’ve been misinformed. Nor are we heading rapidly in that direction...."

the GOP need to send their real leaders ( Norquest- Koch Brothers-etc ) to the white house Boehner is not the decider in chief for the congress .. as grover said all the GOP needs are congressman with 5 digits to sign legislation
floretta -- i would disagree and present this comment from erskine bowles as a proof-point --
"We'll be spending over $1 trillion a year on interest by 2020. That's $1 trillion we can't spend to educate our kids or to replace our badly worn-out infrastructure," said Bowles at a recent forum hosted by IHS Global Insight. "What makes it doubly bad is that trillion will be spent principally in Asia, because that's where our debt is."
what do you think of his comment?
iowaretiree
Agree with you and hope it happens. I am in the same situation you are.
Cheers
SmBusOwnerinNY...
Surprise, I am an independent voter and a small business owner myself, not a Rep covering for the GOP, and that is how I see it.
The Democrats have their share of the blame as well.
Thanks for sharing that interesting article, Amunaka
I don't know why it credits the President alone for those numbers, the tea party which everyone here seems to complain about is pretty tight with the government chequebook too.
So which is it, the President spends less than all previous Presidents back to Eisenhower, because the tea party held him to no revenue, or the President is a big spender?
You can't have it both ways. You are lying RWNJ suckers.
Meaningless guest on a meaningless show.....grats nbc.
not a lot of logic unless you find everything without meaning.
The POTUS, like him or not, is rather relevent to what goes on in our country
thus is not meaningless. It's a one on one so this relevent person will get to talk quite a bit, even if the show and the interviewer are meaningless usually
Laurali,He is not an effective president but he does give good speeches.
It is sad to see all this right-wing garbage still being thrown around about Obama's spending. Some people never learn and never stop hating. I suppose that is how Fox News is still on the air.
Actually, Obama's been quite effective to date - his track record on legislation enacted has been impressive; just look at how mad he makes the Faux Noise crowd when you start listing them off. Even Krauthammer had to acknowledge that (again) last evening when he got into it with that idiot Hannity.
Is denigrating the opposition what we do here instead of using some semblance of facts to impeach them with? Making unsupported accusations and connections? Terrible puns, corrupting names of people and organizations? Oh right! NBCNEWS!
The President proposes and Congress disposes re legislation. Truman's "do-nothing" Congress passed over 900 pieces of legislation into law. This Congress? Just over 200. The House is where legislation has to originate, go to the Senate, they work together to compromise on a bill and THEN it is sent to the President for his signature or veto. Other than by Executive Order, which is limted, there is very little this or any other President can do on their own.
Floretta...(#3.6)..."there is very little this or any other President can do on their own"
This President can rescind his order to Harry Reid to shelve every piece of legislation that comes from The House.....
What are they afraid of ??...
Enough Red State Democrat Senators might vote for some ???....
And while he's at it.....Tell Harry it's over 1,300 days since the Senate under his "leadership" (Pffft) has passed a Budget.....you know, the financial roadmap the Government is supposed to follow....
It doesn't work that way in this country. Never has. The House proposes the budget and sends it to the Senate. The Senate is free to pass it, amend it (and send it back to the House} or reject it altogether. A rejection tosses the ball back into the House court for a more palatable proposal.
There is a method to this madness. It is designed to prevent the House from sending ridiculous proposals to the Senate in hopes of tying up valuable Senate resources that have no chance of surviving a Presidential veto.
Attempts by the House to toss the ball back and forth with worthless proposals are merely underhanded efforts to confuse an ignorant electorate that never concerned themselves with learning how their own government works.
Their success with deliberate deception rests solely with those Americans too stupid and uncaring to use the vast information available at their fingertips to see through this scam.
Do you know of any stupid and misinformed Americans that fit the above description?
Fire all 435 members of the house and senate because they are not worth the powder it would take to blow their brains out. You yahoos have no clue how government works. You just keep voting in the likes of McConnell and Graham and Boehner who care more about fighting for party wins than fighting for Americans.
Imagine that. He's appearing on NBC.Wonder if Gregory is out of jail yet for breaking DC's gun law.
You mean his 30 'bullet' 'clip'. Most of these yahoos don't even know the gun nomenclature let alone the law.
Congress needs to be impeached. It is time for these bums to get something done and stop playing with the lives of the everyday hard working people. This is from a Republican and I am fully aware that Boehner and that crap bag Cantor are a large part of the problem.
I think you are not alone. The Republicans have been on the wrong side of many issues that concern "WE THE PEOPLE". Failure to negotiate will add more nails on the coffin.
Hey maybe Obama's next gig will be on comedy central, everything that comes out of his mouth is a joke, people would be rolling in the aisles!!!
Mike-1228637
Members of Congress cannot be impeached.
iowaretiree #5.2~~A large majority of the people not only like President Obama very much, as a person, but also, like and respect him very much, as our president. Although there are many bigoted racist, who hate him only because he is a black man in the whitehouse, will just have to get over it. He is going to stay in the whitehouse for four more years.
GREATGRAN you are the racist bigot. Playing the race card supports my belief. The majority of people who voted for Obama are the 47% receiving some sort of government assistance. Do they like him or respect him???? No, only wanted to protect their benefits. In response to your "bigoted racist" charge what is the percentage of black and hispanics on government assistance that definitely was the deciding factor in the election?? Getting tired of supporting these deadbeats is not racist. It is simply many of us are tired of working to take care of them. Without question Obama played race priorities to get reelected.
What a joke! The vast majority of the 47% are white retired persons or white farmers who definitely did not vote for Obama. You have no idea what you are talking about. These deadbeats are your neighbors who paid into the system for the last 50 years - this isn't government assistance - its government obligations to people who have paid into the system over their lifetimes. Stop watching FOX news, you are the reason why they have the most misinformed viewers of any news? channel.
To Tom2"""
Funny how racists claim their not racist but everybody else is ...then prove just how racist they are in their very next post..and complain about the race card being played against them all the while playing the poor victim of liberalism card...
On this point, I must agree with Mike: Clowngress deserves all the contempt that the American people can level at them. The problem with trying to impeach them is that first we'd have to get these freeloading windbags to show up for work first --- wait I had a thought: we'll offer free booze, free green-room swag, and an extra 30 seconds of air time in front of a microphone ... that'll bring them on a dead run; if they're not already booked on a talk show already.
I wish they would re-release Independence Day, but edit the scene in Washington so the aliens blow up Congress this time. When I signed the "Death Star Petition"; I was thinking that was where we should aim it and I don't think I was alone.
What is a Republican who gratuidously denigrates or distorts the GOP position? A Democratic who's lying!
No, Mike, but (depending ons state) some CAN be recalled, and all can lose elections if enough voters decide they've had enough nonsense. Unfortunately most voters dislike Congress as a group but like their own representative enough to keep voting them back into office, regardless of the damage they do. This Congress alone is reason enough to insist on term limits, 6-8 years tops. Enough to get things done but no lifetime sinecure. I don't think the founding fathers ever intended anyone to be a permanent representative. Most of them served their time in office, then returned to their farm, business, lawyering, medical practice or whatever. Same should apply these days - and I'd add a ten year moratorium between serving in House or Senate and any form of lobbying/consulting.
Tom2-1134775 #5.5~~Like I said, there are many of you bigoted racist who hate Obama just because he is black. That is your problem! May your hatred of the black man in the whitehouse, eat your heart out. Actually, I think it is very funny that you are so filled with hatred toward another human being, especially when it is a black man, who is far superior to you in many different ways, and is also the most powerful person in the world.

Surprise, surprise. Then off to Leno, Letterman, SNL,the View, and any other venue that will listen to him.
Howdy Doody wouldn't have him (Am I dating myself or what?)
Obama would have refused to take the stage with another puppet. (Howdy Doody) To hard to tell them apart on a black and white program.
Barack Obama is going to appear on TV and blame Republicans for not getting his way. I think we've seen this all ready, like Groundhogs Day, we keep hearing his blame game over and over and over and over.
Perhaps it's time to lead, and not blame. Just a thought.
How naïve to believe that the President Leads Republicans? A no one can lead a pack of greedy Pigs. LOL.
Dear T Rex. Name one time that Obama specifically pointed fingers at Republicans. Even if he did, he'd be right. Let's review: Two unfunded wars; tax cuts, mostly for the rich and corporations; deregulation of Wall Street; unfunded No Child Left Behind national tests; The Patriot Act; unfettered Wall Street banking practices and on and on and on. These were Republican ideas and policies. And by the way, the bail outs started under Bush. And yes, Obama continued them. But Obama's bail outs had strings attached; Bush gave Wall Street Card Blanche. Now, the Republicans want to stop everything and stay in the two wars forever. It's beyond reason to be a proud Republican.
Oblama could not lead a pack of lemmings
John Colorado- When is Owebama going to take blame for anything? The same blathering points made over and over again. Time to grow a pair and lead.
David and Obama. Dumb and dumber - you guess who's who.
(However if there is no cliff Obama is there to gloat and if there is to whine and that ladies and gentlemen is WHY he is NOT a leader.)
Republicans are deliberately using the entire American economy as a hostage to try to squeeze a little more money out of the 99% to give to the wealthiest Americans.
It's disgusting to hurt so many people for the benefit of a radical few.
What is disgusting is that Bender may be a narcissistic robot but not stupid. Said to see his image on a sheep's handle.
Harbinger, it's "disgusting" to read the lies you spin in an attempt to demonize and degrade Republicans... Your lunacy is unbounded and unfortunately corrupts others with less intelligence... which is your agenda... is it not? Wealth distribution from poor to rich? Sorry, but that doesn't have an ounce of credibility. Time to change your tune, and your tactics.

The charges should not be dropped, for if they are, it sets a precedent that DC doesn't want. This was a flagrant violation of their stupid law. Remember, Gregory did this dastardly deed after his producers asked the DC cops for permission to have the innocous but illegal device and the DC cops said, "No!" His penalty should be the same as the penalty the previous big magazine violator got. Maybe more because he was more arrogant.
Tom: Why know what the facts are! Close your eyes!

Gregory will have to kick his game up a notch. He did his White House reporting during the Bush years...

High Income, No Taxes: How Big Money Beats the IRS
By TOM HERMAN, The Fiscal Times
December 14, 2010
For 2007, the most recent data available, there were about 4.5 million individual income-tax returns reporting adjusted gross income of $200,000 or more, about 3 percent of the 143 million tax returns filed for that year, according to an article in an IRS publication by Justin Bryan, an economist.
Of these "high-income" returns, a record 10,465 showed no U.S. income-tax liability, about a quarter of one percent of the group, the IRS said. That was up from 8,252 the prior year, a smaller percentage of the group. As recently as 2004, there were only 2,833 high-income returns showing no tax liability.

Best and most accurate post of the day...I always wondered why they don't have to pay for personal vacations, also why we pay for Secret Service Body Guards after they leave the White House, what's the tab for the four past Presidents costing the taxpayer. If they need a body guard let them pay for their own private body guards, like many Executives and Entertainers.
They only get 60 months in a lifetime... what a joke. You are speaking of one program that can't even police itself or enforce guiding policy. Roll in every other program that many of the same individuals utilize that either supplement TANF or are available to 'switch' to if necessary.
Do some need help? Most certainly. Not anywhere near what is doled out, though.
Another example of how you can post specific facts to argue a point yet never address the scenario in its entirety. Because of this, even the facts are becoming a moot point.

Bush Defends Drug Purchase Set Up to Aid His Speech
September 23, 1989
Times Staff Writers
KENNEBUNKPORT, Me. — President Bush acknowledged Friday that the government set up a drug purchase in a park across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to get a prop for his televised speech on the Administration's anti-drug strategy.
"I think it was great," the President said, responding to questions about the sting operation. "It sent a message to the United States that, even across from the White House, they can sell drugs. It sends a powerful message to the American people."
White House Disagrees
But White House officials argued that the maneuver was justified, noting that it allowed Bush to dramatize his claim that illegal drugs are available throughout the nation and not just in inner-city ghettos.
As a nationwide television audience watched the Sept. 5 address, Bush reached into his desk in the Oval Office and pulled out a plastic bag that contained rocks of crack, a powerfully addictive derivative of cocaine.
The drug, the President told the nation, was "seized a few days ago in a park across the street from the White House . . . . It could easily have been heroin or PCP."
It was a brief, but dramatic, moment in a speech that otherwise provided little theater, as Bush outlined the scope of the nation's drug problem and his proposed remedies.

Oh and you do know you get more time for crack ..than illegal gun possession
Ya, so, a legit arrest was made and a point was emphasized. A little different than going on the View and Kiss the Press with Dick Gregory. Add to that, I am sure Bush was holding something from an evidence locker which was being monitored and returned. Not some junkhead news boy breaking every law on the old D.C. gun control books. But don't worry, the press has Presidential immunity from criminal activity.

Script for Bush's Drug Deal Yields a Comedy
By RICHARD L. BERKE, Special to The New York Times
Published: December 16, 1989
First there was the ''Doonesbury'' comic strip. Then the skit on ''Saturday Night Live.'' But the most damning comments about a purchase of crack in front of the White House orchestrated by Federal officials came this week from the bench.s is like a Keystone Kops thing,'' said a bemused Judge Stanley Sporkin of the United States District Court as he heard the case of 18-year-old Keith Jackson, a local high school student charged with selling the bag of crack that President Bush used Sept. 5 as the prop to announce his war on drugs in his first nationally televised speech. Sept. 5 to announce his war on drugs.
In the courtroom here where the trial opened this week, decorum went out the window. There were guffaws from the judge on down to the jurors, as a Federal drug agent, Sam Gaye, described the logistical difficulties of the Drug Enforcement Administration in setting up the purchase at Lafayette Park across from the White House.

And still, your point is? The newsboy Dick Gregory committed a crime. Whether you want to say it was just a show piece or whatever, he committed a crime and a big crime in D.C. He should be in jail or out on bail waiting trial. If he went on fondle the press with a bag of crack that he got from someone off the street, would the response be "so, it was just for show"?. Nope. He would be in possession, and committing a crime. Don't get your 13 year old relationship at all here. By the way, I am certain the Dick Gregory is already getting the Presidential script of "tough" questions to ask the Pres for his prepared responses.

Contrary to "Entitlement Society" Rhetoric, Over Nine-Tenths of Entitlement Benefits Go to Elderly, Disabled, or Working Households
By Arloc Sherman, Robert Greenstein, and Kathy Ruffing
February 10, 2012
Some conservative critics of federal social programs, including leading presidential candidates, are sounding an alarm that the United States is rapidly becoming an “entitlement society” in which social programs are undermining the work ethic and creating a large class of Americans who prefer to depend on government benefits rather than work.
A new CBPP analysis of budget and Census data, however, shows that more than 90 percent of the benefit dollars that entitlement and other mandatory programs[1] spend go to assist people who are elderly, seriously disabled, or members of working households — not to able-bodied, working-age Americans who choose not to work. (See Figure 1.)
This figure has changed little in the past few years.
The claim behind these critiques is clear: federal spending on entitlements and other mandatory programs through which individuals receive benefits is promoting laziness, creating a dependent class of Americans who are losing the desire to work and would rather collect government benefits than find a job.
Such beliefs are starkly at odds with the basic facts regarding social programs, the analysis finds.
Federal budget and Census data show that, in 2010, 91 percent of the benefit dollars from entitlement and other mandatory programs went to the elderly (people 65 and over), the seriously disabled, and members of working households. People who are neither elderly nor disabled — and do not live in a working household — received only 9 percent of the benefits.
