Just watched David's interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger and then the pundits review of the interview. What Arnold said is that politicians need to work for the people not the party, that when they come to office quit worrying and working for their next re-election. Instead to buck up get a set of balls and do the right thing. This is what the American people want. So what do the pundits do they talk about his affairs and how he hurt his family and is great story of success and coming from a poor background. This is the BS that the media thinks we want it is not we want strong people in office who take the heat tell the truth and stop the spin. HOORAY for Arnold yes he made misstakes but he is a man who says it is my fault. I don't what your sympathy or admiration I am what I am take it or leave it.
Yes, the discussion should have stayed on topic. It was discussing to hear how all the men on the show downplayed his cheating, lying, and decieving actions as none of the public's business. As a public figure that is how the people judges character and if you are going to uphold what you promised on the campaign trail. The integrity of a politician is everything to the people. It was obvious that men and women view his actions very differently as the only woman on the show expressed her disdain of how Armold is handling the aftermath of his soap opera. Confessing that you are wrong does not make it okay! Politics need to clean itself up. There has been so many sex scandals in this last decade that is it appalling!
I've always loved Arnie. I think he's great.
When I heard that David was going to interview Arnold, I was disgusted with the thought of MTP giving him air time to promote his book and disgusted with him for his repugnant behaviors and his "apologies" for hurting his family with his actions & then having the gall to write a book that hurts them more & more publicly. Still, I watched & listened. I have to say that I was impressed with his unspun, bipartisan assessment of how our elected officials should do the work we elected them to do & stop putting party over civic duty & country. It is sad that the noble pursuits of governing have taken a back seat to partisan politics. The citizens of this country must sit up & take notice. Get to the polls to vote for people willing to reach across the aisle for the good of the country and us all. With Obama & the Democrats, we move forward. With Romney & the Republicans, we regress.
Your final conclusion makes no sense. But taken at face value, you are an idiot.
I like Arnold.
i love his acting
The guy is an idiot and a fraud. Maria has more class in her pinky finger than this guy will in his whole entire overweight sagging body. He lies and cheats and I am ashame to admit that I am a Californian, although I never did vote for him to begin with. I always thought one of the requirements before you can be sworn in as Governor ought to be able to pronounce the state that you are going to be the governor of !!!
I'm no fan of Arnold's, nor was I a fan when he was governor. Fast forward, and he sounds like a closet Democrat. Be that as it may, I'm still not a fan, but I'm not prepared to leave him on the road under the bus, either. I did like what he said about working across the aisle, and that he realized how he failed the state when he decided that he wanted everything his way here. Thanks to him for that admission. My final feeling is that, perhaps, some folks need to be torn down some before they can be put back together in better shape than before. Maybe Arnold has had that experience. If he has, then it is between himself, his God, and those to whom he needs to ask forgiveness, not the rest of us.
No fast forward, he sounds like a human being. A democrat wouldn't sound anything close to human.
He had no right to treat his wife the way he did total disrespect show he never loved her and think he can do whatever he wants
Correction, he has the right to do whatever he wants within the boundaries of the law. So, with that said, as long as it is legal, he can do whatever he wants. That's why this country is great. His wife may not like it, you may not like it, but he doesn't care. So, why should you?
I think that as an actor, Governor Schwarzenegger owes the public a good performance and as a politician; he owes the electorate his full concentration and focus on the issues. However, his private life is his to share with his family and friends. I like him as an actor though I wouldn't have voted for him. As far as his affairs go, I don't think that is any of my business.
On Meet the Puppet… ahhh I mean Press 10-7-12
Wow, Arnold and Newt on one show. What I see is a double standard in favor of Republicans. Let’s compare Schwarzenegger or Gingrich to let’s say John Edwards or Anthony Weiner.
I know Gingrich cheated on his sick wife while serving as Speaker but where was the prosecution like Edwards? Arnold’s making money on his book and Weiner is disgraced. I’m not even going to bring up Larry Craig, Mark Foley, John Ensign or Ted Haggard.
I wonder how David Gregory missed this… (lol) you’re a JOKE dude!
I am somebody who hates hypocrisy spoact.blogspot.com
David, while I usually enjoy your interviews, I found your handling of this interview with Arnold to be very disappointing, and symptomatic of the press' obsession with gossip and frivolousness over things that truly matter for this country.
Arnold made a very valid point about the problem of politicians caring more about keeping their seat in Congress and being partisan than actually doing the people's business these days.
Instead of questioning him further on this line of thinking, on a topic which actually matters to the nation and which might have elicited some interesting and pertinent thoughts (you could, for example, have asked him how he thought we might solve this problem in Washington), you chose instead to immediately bring up his affair in response, proceeding then to ask him if his affair eliminated his credibility as a public figure. And the only time you got passionate in the entire discussion was when you spoke about him humiliating Maria Shriver in public "several times."
This to me comes off as an incredibly establishment attitude on your part. You completely ignored his important point about self-centered, opportunistic politicians in Washington, and instead feign outrage over the humiliation of a Kennedy, Maria Shriver, as a result of his affair.
This attitude may have earned you points with your establishment peers, but your decision to focus on the trivial diminish your credibility as a serious journalist. It's a behavior that is as classic as it is disappointing, David ... I've always considered you to be a serious journalist who is willing to press politicians on tough issues, but your performance here was lacking.
Furthermore, if Clinton had multiple affairs that not only publicly embarassed his wife, but also the office, and he can still be considered The Elder Statesmen, how is it exactly that Arnold loses his credibility as simply a political figure for his affair? Could it be because he dared to trespass against a Kennedy whom the media establishment hold so sacrosanct? And by the way, I'm an Obama voter, so this isn't a partisan issue to me.
