Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
- Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has held various positions within the Israeli government. Netanyahu, who lived in the U.S. as an adolescent and attended MIT, joined the diplomatic mission in the U.S. in 1982 was later appointed ambassador to the United Nations. Once back in Israel, Netanyahu was elected to Israel’s legislative body, the Knesset, and was elected prime minister in 1996. He served until 1999 when he took a break from politics. Upon his return, he served as minister of foreign affairs and minister of finance, before rejoining the Knesset. In 2009, Netanyahu regained the position of prime minister.
- Prime Minister Netanyahu has been in the news recently for his tense relationship with the White House. After the U.S. said it would not place deadlines on Iran regarding its nuclear program, Netanyahu said, “Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don't have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.” There has also been controversy over whether or not the White House declined a meeting with Netanyahu.
Ambassador Susan Rice
- Susan Rice is the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and a member of President Obama's Cabinet. Rice has previously served as the U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs from 1997 until 2001 and from 2002-2009 was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, where her focus was issues such as U.S. foreign policy and transnational security threats.
- Rice spoke Wednesday about the loss of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his colleagues. She said this “reminds us all of the service and sacrifice of our diplomats overseas.” In a press release she also said she joins President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in “condemning in the strongest terms this vicious and violent attack.”
- The ambassador was last on Meet the Press in February 2011 during the uprisings in the Middle East to talk about the Arab Spring. At the time she said of the administration’s response, “The message is the same: No violence; respect the universal rights of people to assemble, to protest, to speak, to form political organizations; and, get ahead of reform, recognize that there needs to be lasting political change and lasting economic change. Watch Ambassador Rice’s last appearance.
Roundtable: Ellison, King, Goldberg, Woodward, and Mitchell
- Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) represents Minnesota’s fifth Congressional district. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and previously served on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. One of only two Muslims in Congress, Ellison called the video that is thought to have spurred attacks in Libya and Egypt “amateurish and stupid” but said “responding with violence is never justified. And those who think they are doing so in the name of Islam are wrong and ill informed.”
- Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and has served New York’s third Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1993. King has supported the overarching message of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney response to the recent violence, but said Romney should have waited to release a more comprehensive statement and later should make a thorough Middle East policy statement. He has also called on President Obama for a tougher response. Watch King’s last Meet the Press appearance.
- The Atlantic’s national correspondent Jeffrey Goldberg has been writing about the violence this week. He commented on the tension this has illuminated regarding offensive speech, writing that “the mission of the U.S. government should be stand up for free speech regardless of how offensive it is.” Goldberg has also been following the tense relationship between the White House and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Iran. Here is Goldberg’s last appearance on Meet the Press.
- Associate Editor of The Washington Post Bob Woodward is out with a new book, “The Price of Politics,” which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the debt deal negotiations last year. Watch Bob Woodward’s last appearance here.
- Andrea Mitchell is the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News and the host of Andrea Mitchell Reports. Appearing on The Rachel Maddow Show, Mitchell noted the Romney campaign’s early press release about events in Libya and Egypt may have been in response to pressure from conservative who wanted him to take a tougher stance on foreign affairs. However, she said there has been an ongoing back-and-forth release of combative statements both campaigns have engaged in. Mitchell said, “This is a serious business. This is not the stuff of combative political press releases.” Watch Mitchell’s last appearance on Meet the Press.

More to being a President and Commander in Chief
This past week our Country again finds itself in conflict with Muslim Countries as an anti-Muslim film is made in the USA and sent out over the internet. A man with a long criminal past, according to law enforcement officials on Thursday, Nakoula has been confirmed as the writer and director of Innocence of Muslims. Tracked down Wednesday at his Los Angeles-area home by the Associated Press, the man identified himself as “Nakoula Nakoula.” This man used our “First Amendment” rights of free speech to make this incendiary and HATEFUL piece of GARBAGE.
That being said, I find it simply OUTRAGEOUS and IRRESPONSIBLE that a Candidate for President of the United States would erroneously criticize a sitting President in a moment of International Crisis, a Candidate from the REPUBLICAN PARTY who’s has spawned the likes of a Rev. in the South who wanted to have a Koran burning day and who’s own Representatives in the House have sent accusatory letters about a highly respected Muslim Staff member Huma Abdin to the Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. The continuing anti-Muslim rhetoric coming the Republican Party is not helpful to maintaining good relations abroad, with Muslim Countries in particular. As a Catholic I am still sick with grief about 911, thankfully with the Lords help it never turned to hate. I want to remind the Republicans of their “Christian Values”, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of GOD” Matthew 5:9
This week on Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd had the audacity to say the “Republicans” have a door open here because President Obama has been slow to act. Really? That’s like saying the vase was thrown out of the window and was broken by the Republicans, but President Obama is to blame because he did catch the vase. Really Chuck get real we aren’t that stupid, we watch MSNBC so we do know what has been going on. MSNBC does a GREAT job of educating us. So to put something out there like that is insulting us, Chuck!
The OUTRAGE may end there but the disappointment with the once Honorable Man John McCain, who in all fairness did stick up for Huma Abdin, coming out in defense of the indefensible is a total disillusionment and disappointment at the end of this once GREAT Americans career. McCain, better than anyone understands that Barack Obama is not only the President but the Commander in Chief; And in a moment of crisis when there are “AMERICANS” in harms way, that this is not the time to play politics in order to save the Republican’s FLAWED Candidate. I found McCain’s actions insulting to the American People.
And for those of you that continue to be undecided, this should have done it for you. Mitt Romney is NOT exactly what you would call a “profile in courage”; his propensity to flip flop on every issue this year leaves one wondering if he is not a “profile in cowardice”. The actions and statements of Mitt Romney have been irresponsible, incendiary, reckless, un-Presidential. But more importantly as the time-lines about his statements came to light, we find that Mitt Romney is basically and simply a LIAR. This man cannot stop lying, the press has afforded him every level of respect, they have called his statement mis-statement, un-truths, mis-characterization every euphuism in the book for a LIE.
My fellow Americans in our world away from the cameras and away from Washington DC…they are simply LIES. And this LIAR Mitt Romney is unworthy to be our President and certainly by his actions of this week is not CAPABLE of being the Commander in Chief of the Armed Force of the United States of America and INCAPABLE of defending your family and mine. He talks big, but there is NO example that this man can show us, they he has stood up for ANYTHING. Talk is cheap Mr. Romney…I YAHOO THOM promise NO MORE WARS, A CHICKEN in every pot, and Cadillac in every garage….VOTE For ME! You see Mitt anyone can do that, even me!
Our number one priority may be jobs and the economy, but the World around us can be a dangerous place and although we tend to live our lives in a bubble, we are choosing the leader of the Free World. President Obama has been honest, steadfast, stoic in the face of danger. Whether you disagree with his policies, you have to admit this is a GOOD MAN, a man that has proven himself to be a GREAT AMERICAN, a man that loves his Country. Do you really want to trade him out at this important time in history for a LIAR?
Mr. Netanyahu on MTP. I hope David Gregory isn't soft on him. I don't like Mr Netanyahu I don't trust him. and I am offended by his rudeness and his sense of USA being a cash cow for Israel, while insulting our intelligence by continuing to build settlements on occupied land, For 64 years Israel has had carte blanche financed by the US government. It's long past time for Israel and the US to find a solution for Palestine independence. illegally declaring Jerusalem it's capital does not help Israel. I truly believe Mr. Netanyahu and his supporters have no intention of ever agreeing to a Palestinian state ,and will continue to build these settelments thus perpetuating unrest and the possibility of endless violence. I certainly don't like him inserting himself into our political process. He needs to go home and mind his own business.
I don't like the palastinians, nor do I trust them, Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. There is NO historical evidence to support any Palastinan claim to land. The aim of the Pal's is not peace ( as evidenced by rejecting Pres Clintons deal with Arafat in the 90's) that gave them 98% of what they wanted....no, their aim is much more sinister. I am outraged by Obamas inept forgeign policies. Anyone who thinks msnbc reports truth is deranged. Obama is worse than Jimmy the peanut farmer.
I am also suspect of the fact that Netanyahu has inserted himself in presidential politics given the fact that he has had a long term relationship with Mitt Romney. His opinions and statements have the power to influence many Jewish-American voters and therefore he should keep his comments to himself. @Bigthaw you should really examine the history of this part of the world before you make the claim that the Palestinians have no claim to the land. At the very least you could find that the term Palestine dates back to c. 1150BCE. At that time it was referred to as Peleset transliterated from hieroglyphics in Egyptian documents that refers to a neighboring peoples or land. In the 5th century the term Palestine refers to the entire area between Phoenicia and Egypt. With that being said anyone could have gained that information. Dislike and mistrust are powerful emotions that have clouded reasonable judgement and policies for centuries and remain the cause of bigotry and hatred.
Definitely agree. Is it any coincidence that Romney and Netanyahu are friends who share a history through business interests (e.g. Bane Capital) and now simultaneously have a strangely similar alliance during this presidential eleciton? They're compliment each other in ideological and political terms. Just google the Romney/Netanyahu friendship. You'll find a wealth of information.
As for Gregory, I've often wondered why he was chosen to replace Tim Russert on MTP. This was a venerable program that offered impartial and laser focused analysis of domestic and world events - until Gregory took over. He's sounding more and more like a Republican mole. Just look at tomorrow's lineup of guests. It will be very interesting to see how "tough" he is with Netanyahu and the panel. I would be very surprised if Gregory doesn't give Bibi a pass and instead allows him carte blanche.
David Gregory
has his job because he knows what to ask and what not to ask. Like most anchors
in the mainstream media, he puts his career first and foremost. Why doesn't
Gregory ask Netanyahu how many nuclear warheads does Israel have? Why doesn't
he ask Net about Israel’s brutal aggression against Palestine and illegal
occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, and about the forced water and food
shortages? On the morning of 9/11 2001 Net's Defense (offense) minister Ehud
Barak, named Osama Bin Laden as the Culprit even before flight 93 crashed or
was shot down. He was already calling on a 10 years to forever campaign against
Muslim countries including Iran. The Mossad has their dirty hands all over 9/11
and over 1700 Architects and Engineers, plus demolitions experts and prominent
leaders and academics from around the world have completely rejected the “official”
9/11 story and are calling for a new investigation. Netanyahu would be opposed
to this certainly.
Israel through their American surrogates have been staging in Azerbaijan through the US Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce. This is the Project for New American Century NeoCons in a new form with a sharper focus. The member ship is comprised of Zionist
Kissinger, Brzezinski, the usual Neo Cons from PNAC, plus big oil, military
contractors and high finance. I suggest people go look at the leadership and
membership on their website. This lobby group represents those who would
plunder Azerbaijan’s oil and gas reserves while asking the US taxpayer to fund
the construction of Azerbaijan’s infrastructure through Section 907 of the
Freedom Support Act. This is more important to them than taking care of our own
crumbling infrastructure. Gregory should be discussing how much aid in finance
and military support to Israel without little or no audit. I think it’s time in
these days of fiscal restraint to open up discussion about US taxpayer support
to Israel. Gregory might also mention the consequences of innocent people being
killed in this false flag attack, he might mention the fact that Israel has
virtually no oil of their own and he might mention the fact that if Israel and
the US attack Iran that Russia and China will unite against us. It’s always
about oil and money and terrorism is a front. The Muslim world doesn’t trust
us. No Muslim country has military bases in the US, but we have plenty in their
countries, to protect the oil tycoon’s interest.

Just watched ABC This Week's interview with Ambassador Rice. Jay Tapper conducted a professional and knowledgeable interview and got into the real issues and real concerns. David Gregory as usual has that stupid grin on his face and barely scratches the surface in his interviews. Watching this partisan boy with that stupid grin is nauseating. Amateur, incompetent, and obviously partisan. What a contrast to the professional and serious Tim Russert. And Gregory tried in both his interview with Rice and Netanyahu, to bring up the issue of Romney's comments and try to get them to criticize
that. Really? Is that really the most important point to raise this morning when their is turmoil spreading throughout the Middle East? nbc you are a joke and Gregory is pathetic.
I really miss Tim too.
Sunday mornings are not the same without Tim.
Perhaps NBC is waiting for Luke to mature and take the show over.
However, by then, Gregory will have turned it into the Titantic.
As we approach the last few months of the election I see a failing republican candidate, capitalist's seeing their plans to remove every financial regulation fading away, a big bucks war machine desperately threatened by imminent contract budget cuts, extreme christian religious zealots losing their opportunity to oppress our freedoms of choice. Is it a coincidence that a stupid viral video from a us radical religious cult goes out to enrage the already fragile middle east, or, is all this chaos an insidious strategic effort by those who need a fear deversion to offset political advantage. I dunno...what do you think?
Peter King just does not listen..how does he defend Mitt Romney for putting forth a statement without having all the facts....That is not what I would look for from a potential presidential candidate....If Obama had made a statement before having all the fact King would have slaughtered him for it...blind partisan politics at its best...the fact that King stated he is not here to criticize our President is an outright lie...he has done nothing but criticize the President throughout the whole segment
AS I see the rep fail, they are lost etc... blah blah blah. Why are the democritical pundints here talk ablout what this damnable lady tried to say over the weekend?
Too impossible for these 18 year old jerk-wads to cover up the lastest and greatest lies that this group of Muslims lovers have spawned in their attempt to once again flaunt a bunch of lies to the American people?
This was NOT a spontanious demonstration against a twelve minute sheety little film, actually created by a muslim, not a Jew, who was tring to get his name in the paper!'
This was a plan, made months before the ATTACKS held because our ANTI-SEMITE-IN-CHIEF has opened the door to them by his continual insults, anti Iraelie talks and his being to busy to see a world leader!
This has given the "ALL CLEAR" to the bastards who want Israel gone and all the Jews finished off. Obama included!
But the worst of this is the Goobel's type media who are in the tank about Israel or anything else this president wants!
They bow, grovel, kissass, and drop to their kneew anytime Obama request a bj. Just like Bill Clinton!
We, as a free society should be able to punish the media as a tool of the left wing instead of OUR press core! What good does freedom of the press have to do with anything when freedom from the press, so we could get truth in reporting in the MAIN thing this country needs!
As for Romney - he got the FACTS out there early - not wanting the spinners/liars of the Obama anti-semite group or the kissassers of the press to be able come up with another BIG LIE! Which in this world is all we are going to get except from the Republicans!!!
C'mon David, can't you even try to challenge Ambassador Rice?
Even the back-up to George S on ABC gave her a tougher inteview yesterday than you did on MTP. Timmy must be crying as he looks on what has happened to his show. There was a time when pols feared going on MTP. Now they can't wait to appear.
And how about some criticism of the WH, who on perhaps the most important Sunday in many many months, with international issues of great concern, they can't make the VP or Secy of State or Defense available for these shows.
I understand the Prez may be busy, but where is Joe? Where is Hillary? Where is Leon?Don't mean to disrespect the Ambassador, but this is not the time we need to hear from the JV Team.
