Former RNC Chairman and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour thinks Paul Ryan's keynote address tonight will shy away from partisan messaging and have “much less red meat” than the normal campaign fare.
“I think they want to make the point [that] … this is a serious election and the American people deserve somebody who's willing to lead, even when it isn't easy," he said.
Barbour, a man who has planned his own Republican convention (1996), said there's one major thing he hopes will come out of the convention: he wants "the American people to come out of here knowing the challenger much, much better."
He argues that Romney's image for the past five months has "suffered $200 million of carpet bombing, fear and smear." This convention, he hopes, will allow voters to see the "real" Mitt Romney.

I as responsible American citizen have done my legal and financial obligation to my country by filing paying my taxes on time. Now Romney has the gall to file an extension for 2011, its not like he is doing them himself having to fill out hundreds of pages for tax loopholes and write offs, we don’t even know if he did his 2009 or 2008 taxes there not listed on his web site as being done. Why is it that Rmoney is not even responsible enough to file his taxes on time? A person with this irresponsible nature should not be running our country. Doing your taxes on time is the most basic responsibility of every American.

Recent political history clearly demonstrates that President Obama will not serve a second term in office.
The presidential races of first-term Presidents Carter and Bush Sr., took place in times of economic calamity. In both races, the challenger trailed the incumbent up until mid-October and in both races, the upside of the incumbent’s numbers plateaued early in the race at somewhere south of 50%. In both races, the challenger’s numbers continued to climb and close the gap as the incumbents’ numbers failed to gain any upward traction. And finally, the momentum carried the challenger’s into landslide victories. (Reagan and Clinton victories over the incumbants were to say the least, decisive victories).
Despite traditional MSNBC bias and slant, for example, “…if you’re the challenger, August is typically the month when you want to start pulling ahead.” , in it's piece, First Thoughts: Romney's challenging summer (so far), MSNBC confirms the very similar circumstances to the aforementioned presidential races. An economic calamity, an incumbent with no upward numbers traction, a challenger that continues to close the gap… Where this piece is telling is in its emphasis on the importance of the month of August. There is no historical basis for the assertion as in a presidential race there is no “typical” month where a challenger would want to pull ahead.
Presidential races are all about momentum, which, Romney’s numbers demonstrate that he has and Obama’s stagnant numbers demonstrate no such upward trend…
I knew Mitt many years ago before he was governor. He was kind, warm, caring, and helpful and always took time to listen. Although I voted as a Democrat, I have many Republican friends. Quite frankly, I don't find any evidence that the majority of Democrats are "tax and spend liberals" and I know my Republican friends are not ultra-right wing fanatics who want to soak the middle class and give it away to the rich. Like Mitt (and myself) they are generous, charitable, and want the best for our great country's future. So I don't understand the extremely harsh and unkind words that the peculiar kind of Republicans AND Democrats are spewing forth on this blog. They're not the kind of Democrats and Republicans I associate with and I hope I never meet anyone like them. I know President Obama is not evil, Muslim, racist, etc. He is a deeply patriotic American who has tried his best to pursue his vision for a better America. Sadly, it hasn't worked (I voted for Pres. Obama) and the #1 priority for America today and the next several years is to create millions more private sector jobs by getting a vibrant, world-class, economy growing again. With prosperity, tax revenues will be there for all the programs we need from government without raising tax rates, which would be like kicking a man when he's down. I'm confident Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and the government Mitt will put together is the best for our country's future and will make us great again. So I'll be switching and will be voting for Mitt this November (sorry my fellow Democrats). As Ann Romney said, Mitt will not fail and right now we need that more than continuing to try what Pres. Obama and his government have unsuccessfully tried do do. It's time for a big change, not to go back to the George W. Bush era, but to go forward with a new vision, solve our problems, and build our economy again with Mitt at the helm.
