  • Sen. Dick Durbin (IL) was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996 and in 2006 was appointed as assistant Democratic leader.
  • On Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin vocalized his support for the UN Disability Rights Treaty, he tweeted: “Independence, dignity & inclusion are basic rights that shld be promoted across the world.”
  • Sen. Dick Durbin was selected to the National  Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform by President Obama in 2010.

Assistant Republican Leader Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ)

  • Sen. Jon Kyl (Az) was elected unanimously by his colleagues in 2008 to serve as Republican Whip.
  • Beginning in 1987, Sen. Jon Kyl served four terms in the House of Representatives and three years in the Senate. He will not seek re-election in the United States Senate and will retire in January 2013.
  • Sen. Jon Kyl endorsed Rep. Jeff Flake (Az), who hopes to become his successor.

NBC Sports’s Bob Costas

  • Bob Costas will return as the primetime host for NBC’s coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games, marking his 10th Olympic assignment.
  • Last November, Bob Costas interviewed Jerry Sandusky about the allegations that he sexually abused multiple boys. “I say that I am innocent of those charges,” said Sandusky in a phone interview with Costas.
  • This week, Bob Costas was nominated for an Emmy for his interview with Jerry Sandusky.

  • Republican strategist Mike Murphy criticized the Obama campaign, Thursday, writing: “Obama hacks going over way the top now with "Nixon" attacks on Romney. Their twitchy behavior is a big tell: it's a fear driven campaign.”
