Tony Perkins, CEO of the Family Research Council, doesn't think the compromise regarding contraception and the Catholic church announced by President Obama this morning "is going to hold up."
"I don’t think that the Catholic Church will be accepting of this and I don’t think other religious organizations will either," Perkins told David in this week's PRESS Pass.
Perkins, a right wing social conservative also weighed in on the 2012 race including Mitt Romney's inability to entice social conservatives to back his candidacy.
When asked what Romney can do to woo them, Perkins said, "I don't know that he is going to be able to do that at this point as long as you have Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich continuing in this race"
Watch David's entire interview with Tony Perkins above to hear more from the head of the Family Research Council including this week's "game changing" victories for Rick Santorum, and how that will effect Romney's campaign going forward.

President Obama is aware that thousands of men and women who work for faith-based groups have serious gaps in coverage. As an employee of an infamous mail order pharmacy, I am also aware of these gaps. Sadly, I once informed a young 20-ish high school teacher that her coverage provided adoption counseling in the event of an unwanted pregnancy, but no contraceptives to prevent one. She was devastated. I advised her to register at a local clinic that would bill her based on income. The state and fed govt would pick up the rest. Such hypocritical doubletalk by the 'church' disavows any belief in God's ability to provide technicalogical advances in medicine and our ability to use them in faith. President Obama has every right as a Christian to remind the 'church' faith without works is dead.
Well this is sure to piss off some right-wing Republicans! Heaven forbid Obama make a sensible solution out of what they hoped would be his political downfall! Fairness? Equal rights? A way for religion and policy to work side by side and help women who can't afford to have a kid make sure they don't accidentally have one? What does contraception really do people? It helps prevent well-fair children, unwanted children, and that helps save America money! When will the Republicans wake up and realize that they are only shooting themselves in the foot by attacking women's rights and women's health care! Planned Parenthood helps treat sexually transmitted diseases, prevent pregnancies, and checks for breast cancer yet they oppose that to! "God helps them that help themselves." Ever hear that Repubs? Maybe a little preventative medicine and actually planning to have a child isn't such a bad idea huh?
Tony Perkins is another tool who tries to make everyone live the way he thinks they should. Someone should smack that smug look off his face.
Get with the times people...how many people do you see with 4 or more children...not many why?????? Not because their "not" making love or having sex...they use the "BC" words....Birth control...so they may say otherwise so their churches are happy but will "VOTE" what is reality...I wouldn't worry about it hurting the President....
The fact that the Republicans don't like this compromise is indicative of their entire attitude, and once again shows that the President listens to the electorate while the Republicans listen only to the fringe.
Why does anybody care what the politically motivated leader of a hate group has to say about anything? Why are NBC and MtP helping to legitimize his agenda and position by giving him this platform?
Obamacare is Obama's pride and joy, his great "accomplishment", and he'd be loath to part with any of it. This latest brawl with the Catholics is just a foretaste of attractions yet to come. Obama has greatly miscalculated the effects of this brawl but he will notice at the ballot box come November that the Catholics will not be there to take him over the line to victory. And he needs them to win because there are millions of Catholics in this country - and they vote.
And the 98% of Catholics who use birth control, do they vote too? Do they vote based on what they do or on what they say? I'll bet they have what they consider a perfect rationale for their choice.
heartlight: This is not about birth control. It is about forcing the Catholic Church into submission to Obamacare and thus disregarding and trampling on their religious freedom - and that most Catholics do not want. Whether or not they use birth control is beside the point.
Amos:: You said that there are millions of Catholics in this country. Well, there are millions more WOMEN in this country.
Well let us be fiscally responsible - the mantra of Conservatives. If there is an unwanted pregnancy or child born in wedlock, most of those children end up in welfare system. Folks you and I pay for them and their children becoming welfare recipient and on and on. For 1 individual - life of welfare costs more than 1 million dollars if they dont end up in jail. If they go to jail - we pay more. Why in the world these religious fundamentalists be fiscally responsible and pay for these unwanted pregnancies for a change. If they want their beliefs to be respected, they should pay for it.
sa dikeman: So, your idea is then to kill off babies in the name of the cost of keeping them alive? Of course, it's cheaper to have an abortion that to raise a child for maybe 18 years. But is that morally right? Who are we to decide who deserves to live or die? With murderers on death row, we can have them executed, because they have committed heinous crimes. But, with innocent babies; that's another story.
Susie: Yes, there are millions of women in this country - but you are a fool if you believe they all agree with abortion. None of the women I know agree with abortions.
Has the Catholic Church stopped buying pharmaceuticals from the companies that make birth control pills or is the "conscience clause" a fluid entity that changes when Pres. Obama is for or against something?
The catholic church and FRC are at war with women and conservative republicans are joining their cause. Make no mistake, they all miss the days when men had the power to keep women barefoot and pregnant, marry them to take their family fortunes, and divorce them when they got sick or old.
This is 21st century America. These medieval groups have no place in our society.
you are missing the point. he can not mandate the purchase of goods or services by any private entity. just because your precious A. C. A. ie.( obama care) is being implemented
doesn't mean it is constitutional !
Don't get me wrong ppl using birth control is a personal choice matter an i am all for that freedom. however taking someone's property to fund that activity is trampling upon their rights, be it a religious institution , ins. company or private individual makes no difference. it is wrong to expect anyone to fund another's physical activity against their will...
We all are forced to fund activities we don't approve of via taxation, such as foolish wars of choice. We don't get to pick and choose how our money is used and neither should so-called religious entities. It's bad enough that they don't pay taxes on their immense wealth. They cannot be allowed to enforce their rigid dogma on the majority.
The under lieing current here is barak is using this to gin up his idea of his base by bringing up highly contested social issues to yet again start a political fire storm and further divide the ppl of this country, ah ha we see thru your ploy mr. pres. to quote P. T. Barnum " you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time" we wont be fooled in nov. a. b. o. 2012
sorry for the miss quote ... President Abraham Lincoln
The full quote is:
"It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time;
you can even fool some of the people all of the time;
but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time."
The Catholic position on birth control is ridiculous. The overwhelming majority of practicing Catholics ignore this edict. What is the purpose of such a position? Is the church so hard up for members that they want every family to have ten plus kids? The church should be more concerned with the pedophiles running amok in their institution and stay out of people's personal business.
We women should demand equal time. Where's the discussion over paying for erectile dysfunction medications? Do we really think erectile dysfunction is as epidemic as it may seem? In all seriousness, both men and women should be encouraged to be responsible in procreation. More planned pregnancies would result in fewer abortions and/or unwanted children. I once watched a football player, who won the coin toss, state that he wanted to receive and to defend his preferred goal. It took awhile for the ref to explain that he couldn't choose both. Finally, the concept soaked in, and he made his choice. You gotta love sports analogies.
Remember this line from Camelot, "The crown has made it clear! The climate must be perfect all the year..." * well, Barry added this asterisk
*must also include contraception even if it is against you religious beliefs because I, the Messiah and my angry wife say so.
Contraception is not against the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of Catholics, Only the leadership. With all the pedophiles being sheltered within the hierarchy, Mandating prohibition against birth control should be a low priority.
Ha! Tony Pekins, I signed up on his Family research council site, What a Joke. I thought it would be a Christian values site. More like a Obama Bash hate site. What happen to the Christian command of Love thy neighbor as yourself and pray for those who are in command of us? He claims that all his beliefs are biblically backed. I asked him to provide bible verse explainig his views on National Health Care and the result of Americans not being insured dying , if he was "pro life". I was confused. They asked ME to give THEM verses on my ideas on that??? I was disturbed at the thought of so many Americans, thousands, in the richest country in the world standing in FREE CLINIC lines in California.I wondered Why as a Christian Based entity they fought so hard AGAINST it? Christian rght ,Christian wrong? He never gave me verses and than DELETED me from his site! HA! So much for Freedom of Speech and those Good old American God given GOP MORAL VALUES! He is such a shell for Corporate America, Shame!
I am not Catholic, but work for a Catholic Institution, we provide plan B to patients in our emergency room. I am Christian, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that the insurance company affilitated with my institution provide contraceptive coverage for me, I do not mind paying a co-pay, it does not have to be free. I have medical reasons for needing contraception, due to my inability to pay for my contraception out of pocket, I have had to have 5 minor surgeries, that involved anesthesia, each time I have been at serious risk for complications. Why would any institution prefer to pay the thousands of dollars involved for each surgery, instead of $96 for my preventative contraception. It is the same as paying for antihypertensives, this is preventative medicine. Let us leave religion out of this. This is my health, all my current medical diagnoses are stem from irregularities in my reproductive system. This should not be this much of a major problem, a person need preventative medicine it should be provided.
Better solution: Ban Sex
MSNBC should be ashamed oif themselves for continually giving Tony Perkins a voice through their media when his Family Research Council has been labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. You would noot even thinkk of allowing the head of the Ku Klux Klan a voice, or the American Nazis, but you freely ask for Tony Perkins' position all the time. Shame on you for listening to this hateful man. He does not represent the opinion of a true free America. Liberty for all, inclluuding those hated bby Tony Perkins.
After 40 years of Liberal Social engineering we left with:
1)" Generational Welfare " ....there are people in this Country who have never worked a day in their LIFE
2) We have more Abortions, more Drug Abuse, more Crime, more Divorces, more children born without a Father in the home.....and my Health Care, my Burgers, my Gas.....are going UP, UP, UP
Hey maybe there is something to this "Vast RIGHT WING Conspiracy" !
HooRay for Tony Perkins
